in 1990 Rev. Béla Kató brought back the 120 thousand Swiss franks raised by Swiss confirmation candidates tied around his waist? The money was used to build the KIDA centre, Transylvania’s first conference centre, in Illyefalva.

Children’s village

In 1992 the staff of KIDA began to wonder what they could do about the many little children languishing in orphanages and abandoned in hospitals. They decided to set up a children’s village for the sake of orphans and abandoned children, and to help parents who are unable to share in the blessings of having children. By October 1994, the Children’s Village of Illyefalva was ready, and aimed to provide a stable family-based upbringing. The children’s village filled up over the next six years, and today there are 7 families providing a home for 29 children.

KIDA accepted the role of a social safety net, guaranteeing the necessary conditions (furnished home, garden, payment to the mothers and for the children’s expenses, clothing, secondary school fees after completing eighth grade, counselling, music therapy, sport lessons, etc.).

Oversight of the children’s village was transferred in 2005 to the child protection authority.
