The Ernő Fábián Municipal Library – unlike its counterparts in other villages – plays the role of a true cultural centre. In its central building, a librarian paid by the local authorities provides users with regular service. “The library’s holdings are continually growing, and at the end of 2006 consisted of 5566 volumes”, notes Emese Henning, the librarian, and add with obvious delight: we sign on two or three new members every month. The majority of the users are schoolchildren, but adults are coming in increasing numbers to borrow reading material: the collection’s offerings range from science-fiction novels to storybooks and dictionaries. In the summer, the library organises games and other activities for young children. |
